Back in 2009, I had no idea who Jigg was. I saw a couple mentions on The305 site about him, but like most artist, I felt like he would only come and go.Then, sometime in December 2009, early January 2010, The305 posted their yearly “Best of…” series and listed Jigg as “Rookie Of Year”. Of course I objected to it. Clearly I never heard enough material from Jigg and felt that he didn’t deserve it. Obviously, The305 was on to something that most of us in South Florida failed to realize. Jigg is a powerful force to be reckoned with.
Fast forward to 2011. 3 singles, mulitple collaborations, interviews, videos, and 1 highly anticipated project: “High Grade”.Between January and April 20th(only date that was suitable for the release) all we heard was: “High Grade”. And apparently, all we wanted was “HighGrade”(according to Jigg). Jigg had to have figured this out before his industry assault in 2010. From locking in key players such as producers The Heatmakerz, CTE’s/TheCartel’s DJ Folk, one of Florida’s largest dj coalitions Street Connect DJS, famed photographer Derick G and many more supporters, Jigg made sure that his project was in good hands. Jigg promised “High Grade” and delivered nothing but high grade.
Throughout the mixtape, Jigg shows his versatility. The title track was only fitting to start off the mixtape, giving you an insight into what you would hear. One key track is “Represent” where he pays homage to his city and those who are considered Miami legends. He also gives us a little inside into who Jigg is on songs like “Only Heaven Knows” and “Now You Know”. On tracks like “Fienin’ For You” and “Role Play”, Jigg is catering to the ladies, making sure they aren’t left.
If there’s anything that we’ve learned about Jigg, it’s that he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Not only is he determined to be one of Miami’s top elite, but based on his consistency and presence, Jigg is definitely aiming towards majors.
